When did you step back and analyze you work during this project?
I stepped back and analyzed my work after each layer. Each layer of a mixed media project is very crucial to the overall look of the piece. Each layer adds more depth to the look and more interesting parts to look at. When i analyzed each layer i would look at what needs to be added for example after i put down the tissue paper at the beginning, i thought that lace would add to the colors of the tissue paper, when i added the lace i took a step back and thought that cards would be a good fit for the colors and look. When i added the cards, they stood out too much for my liking, so i added another layer of tissue paper over them to make them more subtle and fit into the look of the piece more. I then thought that there wasn't enough colors and that it looked boring so i added black buttons and maroon tissue paper to make it more colorful and to have more spots stand out. I also added purple ribbon to add to the colors. The piece still needed something so i added little pieces of news paper and cork. After analyzing my work multiple times, i finally thought that it looked ok and was done. It is very important to analyze your work because you never know what you might need to add if you dont step back and take a look at it.
Did you try something that you weren’t sure about as part of this project?
In art one i did many mixed media pieces, i think i like doing these because they are really cool in the end with all of the different layers and i like having the freedom with mixed media pieces, i like how you can add anything you want to, to make it look good in your own opinion. The thing that i did in this piece that was different from all my other pieces was, using 3D objects like the cork, and making the ribbon stand up on its side. I think that these 3D items really added to the look of the piece. I liked this project because of all the different ways you can create a mixed media piece, you can add anything you want to and there are literally no restrictions. This was a fun project for me.
