Did you learn new techniques or processes as part of the work for this project
I learned many new techniques throughout this processes. First of all I have never done a clay project before in my life so basically everything I did was something new that I learned. I learned how to score and slip, which is a very very important processes if you need to combine two a pieces of clay together. Since I had to combine a lot of clay, this technique was very useful to me. I learned how to handle the clay as I was making the ice cream sandwiches. Like to make it more moldable you have to wet it or pound on it for a little while so that you get to the constancy you want it at. I learned how to use most of the tools in the clay bucket that I have never used before which was a great new experience. They only tool that I had used before was the exacto knife. This project definitely expanded my skills in art as well as my skill in creating clay pieces. I really enjoyed this project and I hope to be able to do another clay project soon. It was fun and intesting to do.

What issues are you examining through your artwork?
At first I started off doing a Starbucks cup I was building the cup and I realized that it just wasn't going to turn out good. The cup was already lopsided and too thick at some places and too thin on other places. So then I switched from doing the Starbucks cup to doing the ice cream sandwich. It overall turned out way better than the Starbucks cup would have turned out. Also, when I was in the middle of making the ice cream in the middle, I realized that it was too think to fire. So I had to go back and scoop out the inside of the ice cream with a scopula thing and make it less thick. It was a long processes because I had to take apart the sandwiches and basically recreate them. Also when I scooped out the insides, the sandwich part started to concave a little so I had to make little balls to put inside to keep them from falling in. All of these issues put my piece to where it is now and I'm not upset about them they overall made me a better artist.

Did you try something that you weren’t sure about as part of this project
I originally wanted to do a Starbucks cup as my clay project, so when I switched to the ice cream sandwich I was kind of iffy about doing it. I stopped doing the cup because it didn't look right and wasn't working out the way I wanted it to look so I decided to stop. Everybody around me had already started and was well on their way and I was just starting on the sandwiches. I was iffy about how they would turn out. It was a processes but I'm happy with the way they turned out. Also half way through the project I wasn't sure if the ice cream in the middle was thin enough. I had never done clay before and so when I realized it was a little too thick to burn, it was a little let down. Then I had to scoop out the insides. A lot of this project I wasn't sure about, like the way I would set them up, they way I should paint them, the tools I should use to create it. A lot of guessing and checking and hoping things turn out alright and in the end I feel like they did turn out well, and look very similar to a real ice cream sandwich I'm overall happy with the outcome!
