1) Did you use a source for inspiration, then combine it with your own ideas to make it original?
Devin's dad is an amazing photographer, and I asked Devin if I could use one of her dads flower pictures to use for my piece. She gave me this beautiful picture of a pinkish reddish flower that was perfect for me to use. I cropped the image a little to alter it so that it would fit the needs for my picture. The picture was such a great picture and it inspired me to create an oil pastel drawing out of it. I love drawings of flowers and just flowers in general so it was a lot of fun for me to draw a beautiful flower!

2) Did you gain skill with familiar materials?
In Art 1, I used oil pastels a lot because I like drawing with them but, I was never very good at blending the colors together and distinguishing the lights and the darks. This time I really focused on which part of the flower was lighter than the other parts and which parts were darker. I also have a red and pink and white gradient of color throughout the petals of the flower and I feel like I did a better job this time with making the colors flow together than any other time I used oil pastels. I also tried to make the flower as realistic as I could. I'm not the best at drawing but with the oil pastels this time I feel like it's more realistic than any other oil pastel drawing Ive done. Overall I feel like I've gotten better at oil pastel drawing thought this processes of drawing a flower in oil pastel. I like oil pastels and I hope to get better with them in the future.

3) Did you consider how ideas would work before you tried them?
I did consider how ideas worked before I tried them. On my flower sketch I have multiple different colored backgrounds because I wanted to test out which color would look best behind the flower. I chose the black background at the end because I feel like it made the flower look best and pop out. I also originally had the idea to do this multi colored leave that I found and took a picture of in my back yard. I tried so many different ways to draw this leave and make it look good but I ended up doing the pinkish reddish flower because it look much better than the leave did. So overall I tried two different picture ideas and multiple different mediums to see which one worked best for me. I tried watercolor, water color pencils, and prisms color. I liked the oil pastel and the flower the best, so that's what I chose to do for my final piece!
